ZKM | Karlsruhe Giga-Hertz Award Open Call published

The Giga-Hertz Award for electronic music and sound art has been awarded since 2007. With submissions from over 40 countries per call for entries, the award is one of the most prestigious of its kind internationally. Composers and sound artists can apply for two Giga-Hertz Production Awards (€ 5,000 each) as well as for the PopExperimental Award (€ 5,000) that was established in 2022. Artists having works that fit into both categories are welcome to hand in submissions for both of them.

INTERNATIONAL CALL for WORKS ~ MATERA [ITALY] - Deadline 16th July

The artistic collective LOXOSconcept, with the support of the “E.R. Duni” Conservatory in Matera, the MATERELETTRICA collective, KEYHOLE cultural association and BLUE CAT BLUES association promotes the second edition of MA/IN 2017 [MAtera INtermedia festival].

The MA/IN 2017 will take place in MATERA [European Capital of Culture 2019] early December 2017 at the conservatory "E.Duni" and at the amazing CASA CAVA concert hall.

All authors and performers of any age and nationality can submit works in one of these categories:
[A] Acousmatic ~ fixed media music
[B] Mixed Media ~ for instruments and electronics [fixed or live]
[C] AudioVisual ~ works with pre-prepared video and music. The video part can be of any kind
[D] LivePerformance/SoundArt ~ works that include electronics and other elements. Sound Installation are allowed

Third International Conference on Technologies for Music Notation and Representation

A Coruña, Spain, 24-26 May 2017

Submissions deadline: 13 November 2016 midnight GMT.

The third International Conference on Technologies for Music Notation and Representation is dedicated to issues in theoretical and applied research and development in Music Notation and Representation, with a strong focus on computer tools and applications, as well as a tight connection to music creation.

Paper proposals
Proposals will be accepted as oral presentations or posters.
The duration of an oral presentation will be 15 minutes followed by a question period of 5 minutes.
All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISSN/ISBN reference, and will be archived online after the conference.

Workshop proposals
In addition to paper submissions, we are interested in receiving proposals for workshops involving technologies of notation and representation.
We would also be happy to receive proposals involving presentation formats which challenge the paper/presentation model (e.g. a paper+music presentation).

New masters degree in electroacoustic composition at the Norwegian State Academy for Music, Oslo

As of August 2017 I will supervise a new Masters degree in electroacoustic composition at the Norwegian State Academy for Music in Oslo, and be able to accept two or three new students.

The Master of Music in Composition programme trains highly skilled composers. Through the development and completion of an individual creative master project and a written thesis, students advance their skills and autonomy as composers. After two years of coursework, students will be expected to be able to perform as composers at a high professional level.

*** The deadline for applications is December 15th 2016 and qualified international students can apply.***

- Students are required to have a Bachelor of Music degree or equivalent, with a focus on composition.

- The study programme consists of individual instruction/supervision, lectures, masterclasses, workshops, and seminars. During the program the student will complete a main artistic project and sub-projects. In the application to the program, the candidate outlines a project and focus for their study. This project is refined during the first semester.

- Norwegian language skills are not necessary.

- Electroacoustic composers will have myself as their supervisor and be able to focus on various areas within electroacoustic music, including spatial audio.

- There are no tuition fees.

- The estimated living cost we normally communicate to students is 10 000 kroners per month. International students from a country outside EU or EØS must have proof-of-funds.

The University of Lethbridge, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Music invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2017. Primary teaching duties will be within the Digital Audio Arts major of the Department of Music. This position is subject to approval of the Board of Governors.

A minimum Master’s degree in Audio Engineering/Production is required; a doctorate in a related music field is considered an asset. The University aspires to hire individuals who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, research and production. The successful candidate will be required to participate in the ongoing development of our Bachelor of Music, Digital Audio Arts (DAA) major, as well as contribute actively to the Department of Music and the Faculty of Fine Arts. Teaching assignments may include courses such as Audio Production Techniques, Location Recording and Production, Audio Spatialization Techniques, Game Audio, and other DAA courses as required. Teaching duties in other areas of the Music Department may be assigned depending upon the candidate’s expertise. In addition, the successful candidate may have the opportunity to supervise graduate students.

Review of applications will begin November 1, 2016 and will be considered until the successful candidate is selected.

The third International Conference on Technologies for Music Notation and Representation is dedicated to issues in theoretical and applied research and development in Music Notation and Representation, with a strong focus on computer tools and applications, as well as a tight connection to music creation. Until very recently, the support provided by the computer music to the field of symbolic notation remained fairly conventional. However, recent developments indicate that the field of tools for musical notation is now moving towards new forms of representation. Moreover, musical notation, transcription, sonic visualisation, and musical representation are often associated in the fields of musical analysis, ethnology, and acoustics. The aim of this conference is to explore all of recent mutations of notation and representation in all domains of music.
